Linking Worlds of Knowledge: SALIS, an International Pathway

SALIS met in San Diego, California for three days of learning opportunities and networking. The conference hotel was the Embassy Suites Bayfront, on the San Diego waterfront. In 2015, San Diego marked the centennial of the Panama-California Exposition, a world’s fair marking the opening of the Panama Canal, the first direct pathway between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The 2015 centennial, a year-long celebration is centered in historic Balboa Park.
Panels and individual presentations focused on open science and digital libraries, including the new SALIS Collection within the Internet Archive. Other sessions examined the evolving nature of language in addictions, and on best practices for conducting systematic reviews of the literature.
Tom Babor from the University of Connecticut described the infrastructure of the addiction science field, and a panel of experts discussed the timely issue of marijuana legalization.
