36th SALIS Conference 2014

Looking Forward, Looking Back: Reflections on the Past and Planning for the Future
36th Annual SALIS Conference, April 29 – May 2, 2014
New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA

Substance Abuse Librarians and Information Specialists (SALIS) last gathered in New Brunswick, NJ for a conference in 1985. In 2014, 29 years later, SALIS members and other interested information professionals were invited back again for the 36th Annual SALIS Conference, hosted by the Center of Alcohol Studies (CAS) at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.

The year’s theme, Looking Forward, Looking Back: Reflections on the Past and Planning for the Future, aimed to review past successes and best practices in documenting and disseminating addiction research, as well as to explore opportunities to translate them into our information age.

A few of the 2014 speakers are listed below. View the full program here.

  • Robert Pandina, PhD, CAS Director, Rutgers
  • Paul Candon, MA, Managing Editor of Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs
  • Michael Lesk, PhD, Professor, School of Communication and Information
  • Kristin Tansil, MSW, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Byrony Addis-Jones, MLS, Centre for Information on Beverage Alcohol, ICAP
  • Barbara Seitz de Martinez, PhD, MLS, Indiana Prevention Resource Center

The conference included a tour of the Rutgers Center of Alcohol Studies and its library, with attendees invited to join the Center’s 75th anniversary party at a reception and award ceremony the same evening. For extracurricular fun, the conference hosts also coordinated a group walking tour of campus later in the week — after the pouring rain had stopped!

As always, SALIS greatly appreciates the support of its generous 2014 Sponsors and Exhibitors! For a look at other past conferences, please visit our Conference Archive. SALIS members may view the conference presentations HERE.
