Alcohol Policy Information System (APIS) – The Alcohol Policy Information System (APIS) provides detailed information on a wide variety of Alcohol-Related Policies in the United States at both State and Federal levels, as well as policy information regarding the Recreational Use of Cannabis. The information and resources available on this site are geared toward alcohol and cannabis policy researchers and others interested in alcohol and cannabis policy issues.
AlcoholScreening.org helps individuals assess their own alcohol drinking patterns to determine if it is likely to be harming their health or increasing their risk for future harm. Through education and referral, the site urges those whose drinking is harmful or hazardous to take positive action, and informs all adults who consume alcohol about guidelines and caveats for lower-risk drinking.

Fragile Families & Child Wellbeing Study is following a cohort of nearly 5,000 children born in large U.S. cities between 1998 and 2000 (roughly three-quarters of whom were born to unmarried parents). The study refers to unmarried parents and their children as “fragile families” to underscore that they are families and that they are at greater risk of breaking up and living in poverty than more traditional families.

Industry Documents Library: Tobacco, Drug, Chemical – The Industry Documents Library is a digital archive of documents created by industries which influence public health, hosted by the University of California, San Francisco Library. Originally established in 2002 to house the millions of documents publicly disclosed in litigation against the tobacco industry in the 1990s, the Library has expanded to include documents from the drug, chemical, food, and fossil fuel industries to preserve open access to this information and to support research on the commercial determinants of public health.
Indiana Prevention Resource Center Databases (IPRC) – Assists Indiana based alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) prevention practitioners to improve the quality of their services. Stanford Research into the Impact of Tobacco Advertising – Studies the promotional activities of the tobacco industry. It has published numerous academic articles on various aspects of tobacco marketing, both historical and contemporary. Their web repository of tobacco advertising is intended to support scholarly research as well as to inform regulators and legislators about the promotional activities of the tobacco industry.
Tobacco Industry Documents (TID) – An archive of 14 million documents created by tobacco companies about their advertising, manufacturing, marketing, scientific research and political activities.
Trinkets and Trash: Artifacts of the Tobacco Epidemic – Trinkets and Trash is a surveillance system and archive that monitors, collects, and documents current and historic tobacco products and tobacco industry marketing materials and tactics.

The Pediatric Health Information System – a comparative pediatric database, includes clinical and resource utilization data for inpatient, ambulatory surgery, emergency department and observation unit patient encounters for more than 49 children’s hospitals.
Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) – U.S. health-related telephone surveys that collect state data about U.S. residents regarding their health-related risk behaviors, chronic health conditions, and use of preventive services. It completes more than 400,000 adult interviews each year, making it the largest continuously conducted health survey system in the world.
CDC Wonder – manages nearly 20 collections of public-use data for U.S. births, deaths, cancer diagnoses, tuberculosis cases, vaccinations, environmental exposures, and population estimates, among many other topics. These data collections are available as online databases, which provide public access to ad-hoc queries, summary statistics, maps, charts, and data extracts. Most of the data are updated annually; some collections are updated monthly or weekly.
Census Bureau (U.S.) – is the federal government’s largest statistical agency; providing current facts and figures about America’s people, places, and economy.
Community Epidemiology Work Group (CEWG) – Up to 2014 the CEWG, was a network of local drug abuse experts who reported semiannually on trends and emerging issues from major metropolitan areas and some states around the United States. The CEWG is no longer active but CEWG reports are available on this site. The final CEWG reports are from June, 2014. In August, 2014, the National Drug Early Warning System (NDEWS) was established and took over many of the CEWG’s functions.
Clinical Trials Network (CTN) Data Share (U.S.) – A digital repository of resources created by and about NIDA’s National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network (CTN) – Provides CTN members and the public with a single point of access to research findings and other materials that are approved for dissemination throughout the CTN and to the larger community of providers, researchers and policy-makers.
Drug and Alcohol Services Information System (DASIS) Some of the content of this website was transferred on the U.S. Substance Abuse & Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA), and all of the DASIS reports are now housed on the SAMHSA Data Page. National Conference of State Legislatures – Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment Database – You can search legislation by state, topic, keyword, year, status and primary sponsor. Substance Use Screening & Assessment Instruments – this resource is intended to help clinicians and researchers find instruments used for screening and assessment of substance use and substance use disorders. Some instruments are in the public domain and can be freely downloaded from the web; others can only be obtained from the copyright holder.
Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) – when undergoing substance abuse treatment, individual people can be admitted and discharged from treatment multiple times. TEDS comprises demographic and drug history information about these individuals. TEDS-A records the admissions, and TEDS-D records the discharges. The two data sets are separate but linkable. TEDS-A data collection began in 1992, and TEDS-D began in 2000.
National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) – Datasets are available for public use, so that researchers and public health managers can explore the data in detail. In addition, states can compare their estimates of prevalence of youth tobacco use with national data. The NYTS was designed to provide national data on long-term, intermediate, and short-term indicators key to the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive tobacco prevention and control programs.

Pulse Check: National Trends in Drug Abuse
The Services Research Outcome Study (SROS) is a follow-up to the 1990 Drug Services Research Survey (DSRS). The SROS provided for a five year post-discharge follow-up of a broadly representative sample of approximately 3,000 drug clients treated during 1989 to 1990. The study ascertained their behavior up to five years after the 1989-1990 treatment episodes, and will analyze treatment results in light of the type and cost of treatment services the clients received.
